Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said investigators might never know the exact cause of a crash Sunday that caused the death of Bradley Carroll, a son of former Gov. Julian Carroll.
Melton said Bradley Carroll, 47, had experienced "dizzy spells" recently, but it was impossible to know whether Carroll had one immediately before the crash.
"Obviously we would like to know why, but I just don't know that we'll ever know that," Melton said Monday.
Melton said there is no explanation why the 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac left U.S. 421 near the Versailles Road overpass in Frankfort. The truck then struck the overpass's embankment head-on.
The vehicle deflected off the embankment, traveled across two lanes of the road, and struck a concrete median. The vehicle then caught fire.
Carroll was pronounced dead at Frankfort Regional Medical Center, where he was taken after the wreck.
Authorities have said they have no reason to suspect drugs or alcohol in the crash.
Meanwhile, arrangements have been made for Carroll.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home in Frankfort.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
In addition to Julian Carroll, Bradley Carroll is survived by his mother, Charlann, a brother and two sisters.
