A Versailles man died and his wife, who had been celebrating her birthday at Austin City Saloon, was wounded in a shooting early Saturday at the Woodhill Shopping Center.
The man, Jonathan Thomas Price, 26, died at 2:01 a.m. at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to the Fayette County coroner's office.
His wife, Megan Price, was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Lexington police Sgt. Pete Ford said she was shot in the leg.
The shooting occurred in a parking lot at 1:29 a.m. at 2350 Woodhill Drive, the address for the shopping center.
Police Lt. Raymond Roller said he did not know what led to the shooting.
Police were looking for a black man with shoulder-length dreadlocks who was wearing a white T-shirt and carried a silver handgun, Sgt. Jesse Harris said. The man fled on foot after the shooting, Harris said.
According to Facebook pages for the couple, Jonathan Price was a Marine. He graduated from Woodford County High School in 2006, Herald-Leader archives show.
His wife is a hairstylist at Posh Salon and Spa. Salon manager Tonya Taylor said Megan Price and friends had gone to Austin City Saloon for her birthday.
"It was a big birthday celebration," she said.
Taylor said salon employees had spent Saturday back and forth between the hospital and the salon.
"It's been a rough day," she said.
