A 20-year-old Frankfort man has been charged with wanton endangerment and other charges after he allegedly fled the scene of an early morning Sunday accident in Woodford County that killed an 11-year-old boy.
William Cody Mefford of Frankfort was arrested on Sunday and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, three counts of wanton endangerment and disregarding traffic control devices. He is currently being held at the Woodford County Detention Facility.
Versailles Police say Mefford was driving a 2003 Ford Ranger that was traveling west on U.S. 60 approaching an intersection shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday. A 2014 Volkswagen Jetta was attempting to turn left onto U.S. 60 from U.S. 62. Witnesses told police Mefford disregarded a red stop light and struck the Volkswagen on the driver's side. Mefford then allegedly fled the scene.
The four passengers in the Volkswagen were taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Ryan Moore, 11, of Georgetown, was pronounced dead at the hospital by the Fayette County Coroner's office staff. The identities and conditions of the other three victims were not released.

An autopsy in Frankfort was scheduled for Sunday.
The accident remains under investigation.
