A controversial annexation proposal is now in the hands of Woodford County planning commissioners.
At a special meeting Thursday, Versailles City Council voted to approve an ordinance expressing its intent to annex 336 acres of farmland on the eastern edge of town. Edgewood Farm LLC has asked to be annexed into the city limits of Versailles.
Council members Ann Miller, Carl Ellis, Ken Kerkhoff, Mary Ellen Bradley and Gary Jones voted to approve the intent-to-annex ordinance. Council member Owen Roberts and Mayor Brian Traugott were absent.
The matter now goes to the Versailles-Midway-Woodford County Planning and Zoning Commission for review. Dates have not been scheduled yet for the technical review committee or the full planning commission to review the proposed annexation.
Never miss a local story.
Once the planning commission has held a hearing on the matter, it will go back to city council for a final decision at some future date.
The land, bordered by U.S. 60 and Paynes Mill Road, is zoned for agricultural use, and some of it adjoins the Kroger Marketplace that opened in July.
