The inmate from Three Forks Regional Jail in Beattyville charged with murder who escaped Friday afternoon was back in custody Saturday, a jail staffer said.
William Napier, 31, of Clay Hole, escaped from a transport van at about 1:30 p.m. Friday on Ky. 52 following a court appearance in Breathitt County. Napier, who was charged with murder in July, swam across a fork of the Kentucky River, according to police.
Napier was located and arrested near the rail road tracks off of Coal Branch Road in Lee County, following a tip called into Kentucky State Police, a news release said. In addition to Napier’s original charges, he is charged with first-degree escape.
He was arrested by troopers from the state police post at Richmond. A state police dispatcher said Napier was found shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday.
