A report of shots fired right near the Eastern Kentucky University campus resulted in a temporary lockdown of the school for the third time this semester.
Police gave the all-clear at about 3 p.m. using its campuswide alert system; about 30 minutes after the initial report.
"Although there were multiple reports made, no active threat was identified,” said a phone message from EKU.
The shots fired alert was issued at about 2:34 p.m. and instructed all members of the school to “Take shelter. Secure doors. Take cover.”

The shots were reportedly fired at 2nd Street and and Wellington Court, which is right off campus, said Kristi Middleton, EKU’s public relations officer.
Middleton confirmed that this was the third alert issued this semester; all have addressed unrelated off-campus reports.
“The frequency has been more than usual,” Middleton said.
