Three people were shot in separate incidents off Russell Cave Road Tuesday.
Police who were called to an apartment complex at 510 Hollow Creek Road at about 4:45 p.m. found a man in the back parking lot with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
Lexington police Commander Brad Ingram said shortly afterward that the circumstances that led to the shooting and the extent of the man’s injuries were not known.
“It appeared he had several injuries,” Ingram said.
He said two men were seen running from the scene. Another witness reported seeing a dark vehicle leaving the area at the time of the shooting, but Ingram said it was not yet known whether that was related.
Officers cordoned off the parking lot and focused their attention near a passenger car that Ingram said was thought to belong to the victim, who lives at the complex.
Police said two shootings on Winburn Drive that occurred early Tuesday do not appear to be related to each other.
At 12:21 a.m., police were called to Winburn Drive about a man with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to a news release.
The victim told police that he had been walking through a parking lot when some people who had been in a silver or gray passenger vehicle began to yell at him. The man said he kept walking. He said he heard five to seven gunshots and then felt pain in his foot and tried to run away.
At about 1 a.m., officers were again dispatched to the Winburn Drive area, where a man was found with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Police said the man initially told them that he had been walking outside when he saw someone nearby who fired one shot at him. But in a followup interview, the man recanted, saying that an acquaintance had accidentally shot him. He said he didn’t want to pursue criminal charges.
