An arrest warrant has been issued for one man involved in an afternoon armed robbery of customers in a Fayette Mall store, police said.
After the Sept. 7 robbery, the suspects and the customers who were robbed left the Vengeance store, with the assailants using an entrance by Dick’s Sporting Goods. The victims have not identified themselves to police.
Police identified Laybron Montaz Franklin, 21, as one of the suspects who brandished a gun, pointing it at a store clerk and customers. A warrant for his arrest on a wanton endangerment charge has been issued, police said.
When the suspects with guns entered the store, the two customers turned over the demanded cash, police said. The suspects didn’t take money from cash registers or store merchandise.
Detectives think the customers were known to the robbers and were targeted because of earlier confrontations, police said. Police are still working to identify the other suspects.
The crime was the second high-profile gun-related incident at the mall since late July. Several cars in the parking lot were damaged and a person was injured July 22 when the occupant of a dark-colored passenger car fired a weapon.
Anyone with information about Franklin’s whereabouts or the other suspects is asked to contact Lexington police by calling 859-258-3600.
