Shots were fired and a man was hit in the head with a wooden piece of a porch railing Monday night at a party near the University of Kentucky.
A UK alert went out at 1:48 a.m. warning students that shots had been fired near Crescent and University avenues. The alert reported that three people were involved.
Lexington police were called at 1:37 a.m. Officers found that a man had tried to go into a party to sell narcotics, Lt. Kevin Metcalf said.
When one of the residents of the house refused to let him in, the man hit the resident in the back of the head with a slat from the porch, Metcalf said. As the man fled, he fired shots into the air.
The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, Metcalf said.
