A fire Tuesday afternoon destroyed a garage and a vehicle and severely damaged a Lexington home. Siding on a neighboring home also was damaged.
Battalion Chief Jeff Nantz said firefighters were called to home on the 800 block of Sugarbush Trail after flames and smoke were seen coming from a garage.
Nantz said no one was in the house when the fire began. The homeowner, who showed up while the garage was engulfed, was taken to a local hospital. Her injuries were unknown, but she was receiving oxygen.
Investigators were at the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
Never miss a local story.
Tuesday's fire was the second in recent days where nearby homes were damaged because of their proximity to the fire. Last week a fire destroyed a home and damaged six others on Hibernia Pass.
"What you're finding is when they build the homes this close, it doesn't take much of a fire to create an exposure problem for your neighbor," Nantz said. "So, this is going to be a problem I have a feeling we're going to see for a long time in Lexington."
