The Nelson County father who police say killed his 21-month-old son and himself Tuesday had been involved in a custody dispute with the child's mother for months, a relative said.
Nelson County sheriff's deputies got a call at 5 p.m. Tuesday about a shooting on Tree Top Drive in Bardstown.
Deputies found Timothy Frazier, 28, the homeowner, and his son, Cole Lance Frazier, dead from gunshot wounds, according to a release from the Nelson County Sheriff's Office.
No one else was in the home at the time. There were no signs of forced entry, the release said.
Timothy Frazier's father, John Frazier of Bardstown, said he doesn't know what happened in the house, but he said his son loved his family.
He said Timothy Frazier and Cole's mother, Candice Nicole Dempsey, had been involved in a custody dispute for a few months.
"I just want to set the record straight," John Frazier said. "Her people are going to say that Timmy was a bad guy, but he loved both of them."
John Frazier said his son wasn't a saint, but few people can make that claim. "And that's about all I can say, really."
Dempsey's family could not be reached for comment Wednesday evening.
Cole's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Arrangements for Timothy Frazier were not complete Wednesday.
