Lexington police are investigating break-ins at two businesses in the Hartland shopping plaza.
Lexington police spokesman Lt. Ron Compton said someone broke into Hartland Hair Design and Sandy Nails, in the 4700 block of Hartland Parkway on Monday night or early Tuesday. Nothing was stolen from either business, he said.
Hartland Hair Design manager Ralph Scope said no money had been left on the premises overnight.
Scope said there was blood inside the salon, and a hammer and black jacket were discovered in a yard up the street.
"Our assumption was that the hammer might have been used to smash our glass front door," Scope said.
Denise Hayden, an employee at Sandy Nails, said it was the second time the store has been broken into in less than three weeks. Hayden said a $1,200 check and credit card statements were taken June 13.
Scope said his salon also was broken into June 13, but nothing was taken.
Hayden said a security system will be installed Wednesday at Sandy Nails.
Scope and his wife, who have owned Hartland Hair Salon since 1995, also are considering security upgrades.
Compton said detectives are following several leads.
