The Bourbon County Sheriff's Department has charged a former Bourbon County high school special-education teacher with first-degree sexual abuse for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old special-needs student.
Melissa Arnett was arrested Tuesday morning in Mount Sterling. She had resigned her position with the district in early June, when the allegations were made, said Jim Dickerson, director of planning and programming for the Bourbon County School District.
According to the indictment, Arnett allegedly had sexual intercourse with the unnamed minor on at least five occasions.
The arrest report states that when confronted with the allegations and certain phone records, Arnett confessed.
She was released Tuesday on $5,000 bond.
Arnett is the third teacher charged with inappropriate sexual conduct with a student in Bourbon County and Paris schools this year, Bourbon Sheriff Mark Matthews said.
