HARRODSBURG — Police have charged two people with murder in connection with the May suffocation death of a Harrodsburg woman.
Paul E. Estes, 36, a homeless man whose last address was Lancaster, and Megan Nicole Brooks, 23, of Harrodsburg are accused of killing Brooks' mother, Debora Brooks, 43, of Harrodsburg.
Debora Brooks, an employee of Charleston Health Care in Danville, was found dead May 20 in her Harrodsburg apartment, police said. She was found with a plastic bag over her head.
Harrodsburg Police Detective Garry Bradshaw said he thinks Estes is Megan Brooks' boyfriend. He said Debora Brooks might have been killed for her life insurance money.
Estes was arrested Friday and pleaded not guilty Monday in Mercer District Court. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 18 in Harrodsburg before Mercer District Court Judge Jeff Dotson. At that time, the judge will hear evidence and determine whether there is probable cause to send the case to a grand jury for possible indictment.
Megan Brooks was charged Tuesday. She and Estes are in the Boyle County jail.
