PIKEVILLE — A Kentucky State Police captain is charged with misdemeanor assault of a minor.
State police said they have also opened an internal investigation of Capt. Jeff Caudill. He had been a commander at the Ashland and Hazard police posts before taking command of the Pikeville post on Feb. 18, 2008, according to a news release.
Caudill is now assigned to the agency's inspections and evaluations branch, responsible for maintaining paperwork and evidence records, and he has been on sick leave for about a year and half, said Trooper John Hawkins, KSP spokesman.
A criminal complaint served on Jan. 8 says Caudill intentionally shoved or pushed a juvenile on or about Oct. 9. He was charged with fourth-degree assault, a misdemeanor. Circumstances and the location of the assault were not clear, and a victim was not identified in court records.
Caudill could not be reached at his Pikeville home, and his attorney did not immediately return a phone call. The Pike county attorney did not immediately return phone messages.
A trial is scheduled to start May 4.
