NICHOLASVILLE — Counterfeit money has been passed at several businesses, Nicholasville police said.
Over the past two weeks, police received several complaints about counterfeit $20, $50 and $100 bills.
The $100 bills appear to have been made using a different process than the $20 and $50 bills, which police said "are less than standard quality."
Police said businesses should alert their employees to check all bills for quality and authenticity.
In particular, employees should ensure that the security strip that is embedded in the bill matches the printed denomination on the bill. The security strip is visible when the bill is held up to a light.
Counterfeit bills are reported a couple of times a year in Nicholasville, said Officer Kevin Grimes.
