A former Fayette County middle school teacher accused of drug trafficking pleaded guilty to lesser charges Friday.
Ashley Alyson Delaney, 29, was arrested March 8 after officers searched a home on Duval Street where they found 12 marijuana plants. She was charged with trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school, cultivation of more than five marijuana plants and possession of drug paraphernalia.
During her arraignment at Fayette County circuit court Friday, those charges were amended to two counts of possession of marijuana, for which Delaney paid a $200 fine.
Delaney did not respond to a request for comment.
Delaney was in her first year as a teacher and dance coach at Crawford Middle School when she was arrested. Lisa Deffendall, spokeswoman for Fayette County schools, said Delaney resigned in early April.
A man named Jeremy Byard was also arrested at the home for drug trafficking and possession. He pleaded guilty to one count of cultivation of marijuana on April 30.
