Lexington police are investigating an abuse case of a 10-month-old boy who died from his injuries Thursday.
Dominic Knox Stephens died about 5:25 p.m. Thursday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. Autopsy results are pending, according to the coroner's office.
Christopher Ryan Mitchell, 27, was charged Sept. 22 with first-degree criminal abuse, according to court records. The uniform citation says Mitchell abused an infant, "causing serious physical injury."
On Friday, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said investigators did not want to speculate about additional charges Mitchell could face. Roberts said Mitchell was initially charged after he was questioned at police headquarters two days after the infant was hospitalized. The citation says Mitchell admitted to shaking the child on Sept. 20.

"Our initial investigation led us to believe that the suspect was caring for the child at the time," Roberts said.
Roberts said the infant was not related to Mitchell.
Mitchell was released from the Fayette County jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
The funeral service for Dominic will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home on East Main Street. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m.
