Authorities in Anderson County want to question a man who witnesses say killed a puppy and threw it into a fire pit.
Police are looking for Paul Scott Dearinger, 40, who is accused of stomping on the dog's neck and then throwing it into the pit, Anderson County Chief Deputy Joe Milam said. Witnesses told police they saw the killing.
The puppy reportedly was killed Sept. 25 on Dry Dock Road, about 5 miles west of Lawrenceburg, police said.
Investigators thought they had a lead on Dearinger's location, but when that fell through, they released information about the case Wednesday, Milam said.
Dearinger has no permanent address, but he lived on Dry Dock Road at one time, Milam said.
The mixed-breed puppy named Buster was 8 months old and weighed 14 pounds. The dog was buried on the Dry Dock Road property but was exhumed as evidence, Milam said.
The animal cruelty complaint is under investigation by Anderson County Animal Control and the Anderson County Sheriff's Office.
Anyone with information about Dearinger's whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's office at (502) 839-4021.
