A University of Kentucky employee in the Center for Drug and Alcohol Research has been suspended without pay after being accused of growing more than 40 marijuana plants in her home.
Tracey Ellerbe, 51, is the center's manager for community-based services. She has been suspended pending an investigation, UK spokeswoman Kathy Johnson said Thursday.
Ellerbe was arrested after the grow lights she was using in her attic overloaded a circuit, causing a fire that caused significant damage to the house. Firefighters found the plants, according to court documents.
She pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a charge of cultivation of more than five marijuana plants. Court documents say that Ellerbe "admitted to growing the marijuana for personal use."
