Two teenagers were charged with first-degree robbery after two failed robberies early Tuesday.
Pedro McKee, 18, and an unidentified juvenile are accused of trying to rob a Shell gas station on New Circle Road about 1 a.m. and a Walgreens pharmacy on Richmond Road 30 minutes later. They didn't get away with any money either time, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
Employees at Walgreens gave officers a description of the thieves and their car, Roberts said. Officers pulled over a matching car on New Circle Road and arrested McKee and the juvenile after a short foot pursuit. A third male passenger got away, Roberts said.
Police said one gun used in the attempted robberies is a handgun stolen Thursday from Sling Point Firearms. Police are trying to determine whether McKee or the juvenile was involved in that burglary, Roberts said. Surveillance video showed a stolen car smashing through the front door and then three men grabbing several guns before fleeing.
McKee is charged with receiving stolen property, two counts of first-degree robbery and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was being held in the Fayette County jail on a $20,700 bond Tuesday. He will be arraigned Wednesday.
