Police are investigating armed robberies of two branches of a Lexington tanning business Tuesday night.
The first occurred at the Southern Rays Tanning salon on Richmond Road about 7:20 p.m. A man dressed in black clothes with a stocking over his head showed clerks a silver handgun and demanded cash, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.
The business's owner called another branch on Keithshire Way and told employees about the robbery, asking them to lock their door between customers coming and going, Roberts said.
But about 8:30 p.m., a robber with a similar description pounded on the door, showed a handgun and demanded to be let in, Roberts said. Clerks complied, and he escaped with more money.
Canine tracking teams were called but were unable to follow the robber's trail, Roberts said.
Roberts said police do not think the robberies are connected to other recent robberies in the area.
