Victims of certain types of minor, non-emergency crimes can now report them to police online, the Lexington police department announced Monday.
The Citizen Online Reporting Service is available through the department's Web site, Lexingtonky.gov/police.
The site allows users to file reports for these crimes: harassing communications, fraudulent use of a credit card, lost or mislaid property, theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief and theft (larceny) from an automobile of property valued less than $500.
The reported crime must have occurred in Fayette County and must have no suspects — if a victim thinks he knows who committed the crime, the report must be filed by phone or in person. If the crime is in progress, a victim must call 911, Commander Alan Martin said.
Never miss a local story.
Mayor Jim Gray, Chief Ronnie Bastin, Martin and Officer Paul Stewart announced and demonstrated the system at a news conference Monday.
