A Somerset man has been charged with rape after police say he arranged to meet a 13-year-old girl at the Somerset Mall on Saturday night, then took the girl to his home and had sex with her.
The girl went to the mall with a family friend Saturday but told the friend she was leaving with her uncle, said Somerset Detective Lt. Shannon Smith.
Instead, she left with Jose Ruiz, 20, whom she had met on Facebook, Smith said.
The girl's father reported her missing after it was discovered that the man with whom the girl had left was not her uncle.
Somerset police were called to the mall to investigate at 10:38 p.m. Saturday, according to the news release.
The family friend was able to provide a description of the vehicle in which the girl had left, and officers later found that vehicle at Ruiz's residence on Griffin Avenue in Somerset.
The girl was inside the home. She was taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for examination.
Ruiz was charged with second-degree rape and taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center.
