A Harrodsburg man was charged with driving under the influence Thursday night after a pickup truck ran off a road and struck another man riding a lawn tractor, the Mercer County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Michael Moore, who was riding the tractor, was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington, where he was treated for multiple injuries. He was listed in fair condition Friday morning, a spokeswoman said.
Christopher Byrd is charged with first-offense DUI, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of marijuana and driving with no insurance, Deputy Sheriff Billy Whitenack said in the news release.
The accident, which was reported at 6:19 p.m. Thursday, occurred at 4154 Bohon Road.
Never miss a local story.
Byrd was driving a 1996 Chevrolet pickup east on Bohon Road when he reached for his cellphone, Whitenack said. The truck went off the road and struck Moore, who was mowing his lawn with a Troy-Bilt lawn tractor, Whitenack said.
Byrd was being held in the Boyle County jail.
