A man was found dead in a car at the bottom of a pond in Rowan County on Tuesday.
Frank E. Christeson, 49, of Morehead, who worked at a local Huddle House restaurant, was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m., said Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt. Drowning is the primary cause of death, he said.
Christeson was driving a 1999 Crown Victoria on Cranston Road when he drove into the pond about 2 miles north of Morehead sometime Monday night, state police said.
At 10:39 a.m. Tuesday, a motorist reported that a vehicle might have gone into a pond after hitting a dry hydrant that was knocked over. Those responding found tire marks leading to the pond, and the search began, Veeneman said.
He said Christeson appeared to have lost control while rounding a curve too quickly.
