Lexington police say that they have located a woman who was reportedly abducted late Saturday night and returned her safely to her family.
Late Saturday, Lt. Chris Van Brackel said the woman — identified as Brandi Jeanette Chambers — was riding in a vehicle stopped in traffic at Seventh Street and Delcamp Drive at about 5 p.m. Saturday when a man got out of another car and approached the vehicle, according to other passengers who were in the car with Chambers.
Van Brackel said that witnesses reported that the man claimed to be a bail bondsman, grabbed Chambers by the arm and put her in the red Mercedes he was driving. The witnesses reported seeing a gun in the man's pocket, Van Brackel said. There are no bail bondsmen in Kentucky.
"She was crying. She was upset," Van Brackel said.
Never miss a local story.
Van Brackel said the person with whom Chambers had been riding drove to Winchester and called the victim's mother, who reported the incident to police.
Early Sunday morning, police issued a news release saying that they had received a tip from someone who saw a news report on the reported abduction. That tip led them to Chambers, who was located and returned to her family.
"At this point, the investigation is ongoing," police said in the release. No other details were available.
