A man from Gray Hawk in Jackson County died Wednesday evening, a day after jumping out of a moving prisoner transport van.
Denny R. Durham, 34, who was being transported from Jackson Circuit Court to the Jackson County Detention Center when he managed to open the rear door of the van and jump from the vehicle, died at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, according to a release from the Fayette County Coroner's office.
Authorities on Tuesday had taken Durham to court for a probation revocation hearing, where Durham learned that he would most likely spend time in prison.
He had been released from jail while enrolled in the Jackson County diversion program; if he completed the requirements of the program, a charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance would be removed from his record.

He apparently violated the terms of his release and was rearrested, according to the release. He was taken from the jail to court Tuesday afternoon, and on his way back, he leapt from the van about 3:30 p.m., according to a state police release.
It's unclear how Durham managed to move around in the van and who was driving it. Kentucky State Police, who is investigating, could not immediately be reached for comment.
