Lexington police have named a former boyfriend as a suspect in the Friday morning stabbing of two sisters.
Lexington police said Saturday they are looking for Alejandro Garcia, 38, who had been charged with assaulting one of the women in April. Garcia also goes by the name Alex. Lexington police said Saturday that he was officially wanted for questioning in the attack.
Police said Friday that they thought a man entered a ground-floor apartment through a window in a building that is a part of a complex at 1040 Cross Keys Road near Alexandria Drive.
The man assaulted one woman who was asleep in her bed and then went into another room and assaulted the second woman. Police did not release identities of the two women, but documents and neighbors say they are Bobbie Jo Woods and Renetta Woods.
Both women were taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital. Bobbie Jo Woods originally was listed in critical condition, but her condition was upgraded Saturday to fair. UK hospital officials said they had no information on Renetta Woods.
Bobbie Jo Woods and Alejandro Garcia have had arguments in the past, according to court records. Garcia was charged April 6 with fourth-degree assault after "striking her in the mouth with a closed fist and then choking her with a dish rag," court documents said.
Garcia pleaded guilty May 4 to an amended charge of disorderly conduct. He was credited with time served and released from the Fayette County jail.
