A man was charged with assault, driving under the influence and other charges after his Jeep collided with a Volkswagen, injuring the driver and passenger, Lexington police said Tuesday.
The wreck occurred about 6:11 p.m. Monday at 4468 Leestown Road.
Thomas C. Wright, 47, of Midway was driving a 2006 Jeep Cherokee outbound on Leestown Road when the Cherokee crossed the center line, colliding head-on with a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle driven by Samantha L. Arnold of Georgetown, police said.
Arnold was taken to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital and was listed in critical condition late Tuesday morning. Her passenger, who wasn't identified in a news release, and Wright also were taken to UK hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening.

Wright was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana when the crash occurred, police said. In addition to two counts of assault and second-offense driving under the influence with aggravating circumstances, Wright was charged with possession of marijuana.
