Two U.S. Postal Service mail carriers were charged in separate indictments Thursday for stealing several mail packages containing prescription pills.
A federal grand jury has indicted Randall Carter, 40, of Lexington and Pamela J. Hawkins, 40, of Lawrenceburg on charges of theft of mail by a U.S. Postal Service Employee. Carter is charged with six counts of that charge; Hawkins faces 12.
Investigators say Hawkins took 12 drug parcels that contained hydrocodone and were supposed to be delivered to U.S. veterans in Anderson County. The alleged operation began in August of 2009 and went through May, the indictment says.
The indictment says that, on Feb 11, Carter stole drug parcels containing prescription pills that were intended for people in Eastern Kentucky.
