Actor Mickey Rooney is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at a Nov. 14 University of Kentucky conference called Broken Trust: Elder Financial Abuse, UK spokeswoman Kristi Lopez said.
Earlier this year, Rooney, 91, testified before a special U.S. Senate committee considering legislation to curb abuse of senior citizens. He said he had been a victim of financial exploitation by relatives.
The conference, to be held at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital, is geared toward officials, advocates and other professionals who help seniors, but it is open to the public.
The conference will provide information to help recognize existing or potential financial abuse of elders, protect those at risk, and know what to do to stop exploitation. It will be hosted by the UK Justice Center for Elders and Vulnerable Adults.
