A Perry County man was charged with murder Friday after he was involved in a fatal wreck while allegedly driving while impaired, state police said in a news release.
Eric J. Ison, 20, of Hazard, also was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, second offense, according to the release.
Police suspect Ison was under the influence of prescription pills, though toxicology tests will be required to confirm that, said trooper Tony Watts, spokesman for the Hazard state police post.
Police said Ison was driving south on Ky. 15 at Bonnyman, a few miles north of Hazard, when he ran off the road and hit a guardrail early Friday. He over-corrected, crossing into the northbound lane and hitting a car driven by Bobby D. Napier, 68, of Breathitt County, according to the release.
Napier died at the scene of the wreck, which happened at 5:25 a.m.
Ison was treated for injuries and then taken into custody.
Ison was wearing a seat belt but Napier was not, police said.
