WINCHESTER — Percy Hargrove III and the man Winchester police accused him of killing apparently had a relationship with the same woman, according to court records.
The body of Andrew David Ingram, 33, was found Wednesday under the back porch of a home at 225 Whitney Court, between Lexington Road and Interstate 64 in Winchester. It was found hours after witnesses said an armed man broke into Ingram's home and shots were fired.
The body was found about 1:30 p.m., a short distance from Ingram's home at 210 Whitney Court. Hargrove is charged with murder, first-degree burglary and tampering with physical evidence.
Police were first called to 210 Whitney Court about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday in response to a burglary with shots fired. When officers arrived, there was no sign of an intruder or Ingram, but there were signs a struggle had occurred, Winchester police Capt. James Hall said.
Hargrove and Ingram apparently had run from the home, and a shot from a .45-caliber handgun was fired during the pursuit. A shell casing was found "near the victim's residence in the general direction the victim fled," the court document said.
Ingram died of a single gunshot wound to the back, Hall said.
Ingram's roommate, whom police didn't name, was injured in the scuffle. The roommate identified Hargrove from a photo lineup as the man who broke into the home with a gun.
"The witness hid in a bathroom and heard a gunshot. When he came out, (the) suspect and victim were gone," the document said.
Hargrove was later found in the Forest Park area, five or six blocks from Whitney Court, Hall said. Ingram's body was discovered as police were interviewing Hargrove.
Hargrove said he had been in the Whitney Court area and had run from police, but he "refused to make a statement" after the body was found, the document said.
Police found two wallets — Ingram's and Hargrove's — near the body, the document said. The gun that killed Ingram was not found.
Police think the two knew each other.
"Both had a relationship with the same woman," the document said.
Hargrove was being held in the Clark County jail with bond set at $1 million. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
