Lexington disc jockey Jay Alexander will hold a community forum on his radio show Friday to discuss the implications of recent shooting deaths of teenagers in Lexington and Florida.
Alexander, a DJ at WBTF-107.9 FM, will hold the forum during his show broadcast from Victorian Square starting at 3 p.m.
Alexander said he'll be joined by Urban County Councilman Chris Ford, the Rev. C.B. Akins, and representatives from Mayor Jim Gray's office and law enforcement.
Alexander said he decided to hold the forum after the shooting death of Chaz Black, 16, in Lexington on Sunday, and the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin, 17, in Florida last month.
"It's about all the kids and the gun violence going on here in the community," Alexander said. "We have young kids settling their arguments with guns. I've never seen anything like this in a community this size."
Alexander said he hoped the forum would help start a communitywide effort to tackle the problem.
"Our kids are killing themselves," he said. "The time for talk is over. It's time to move into action."
