Lexington police arrested a man in Woodford County on Thursday night after a car chase that briefly reached 80 mph.
Police Lt. Scott Blakely said officers apprehended Michael Hamilton of Frankfort when his red Honda quit. Hamilton refused to get out for about five minutes before surrendering, Blakely said.
Police initially spotted Hamilton near Forbes Road and Leestown Road at 7:37 p.m. and chased him into Woodford County before his car broke down, Blakely said. He was arrested just before 8 p.m.
Blakely said the chase reached 80 mph at one point, but then slowed to 35 mph when Hamilton's car developed mechanical problems
Lexington officers had been looking for Hamilton since an incident Wednesday night in the area of Chestnut and Seventh streets, where he allegedly fled from police. Bike officers said they spotted drugs in Hamilton's car, but he drove away when they approached, hitting their parked bikes in the process.
Blakely said officers had a warrant for Hamilton on wanton endangerment, fleeing police and other charges stemming from the incident Wednesday. Additional charges, including DUI, will be added to the list after Thursday night's chase, he said.
