A Knott County man was shot and killed early Wednesday after confronting his daughter's boyfriend, according to state police.
The preliminary investigation indicates Donnie Gibson, 43, of Pinetop went to his daughter's house and started an altercation with her boyfriend, Dillon Cornett, 25, inside the house, state police said in a news release.
Cornett got a gun and fired toward Gibson, who received a fatal wound, police said.
Authorities would not release information on what kind of gun Cornett used.
Coroner William Jeff Blair said there had been an ongoing disagreement between the two men over the last couple of days, but he said he did not know the nature of the disagreement.
Cornett was not immediately arrested. Police will present evidence about the shooting to a grand jury to see whether the panel wants to issue charges, according to the news release.
State police were notified of the shooting, which happened on Spring Branch in the Pinetop community, at 5:58 a.m. Wednesday.
