A 23-year-old man from Burnside has been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl after police say the child's mother caught him in the act at her home.
Just before midnight Monday, Pulaski County sheriff's deputies responded to a home in the Antioch community after the mother called to report the incident, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
When she found the man, identified as Corey Walter Eugene Hughes, engaged in a sexual encounter with her daughter, the mother attacked him with a coffee cup, causing several cuts to his head, according to the release. Hughes fled before deputies arrived but was found nearby and taken into custody.
However, he ran from the deputies after being taken to the sheriff's office for questioning, according to the release. He remained free until about 10 a.m. Tuesday, when he was found walking in Somerset.
When questioned by detectives in the sheriff's office, Hughes admitted to having a sexual encounter with the 13-year-old, the release stated.
He was treated for injuries at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and then taken to the Pulaski County Detention Center. He is charged with first-degree rape and second-degree escape.
