The child sex-abuse case against a former Zumba instructor and former teaching assistant is headed to the Fayette County grand jury.
The case against Jason Thompson, 31, of Lexington was waived to the grand jury in Fayette District Court on Thursday.
Lexington police charged Thompson last month with first-degree sexual abuse and second-degree sodomy involving a 13-year-old boy.
According to documents filed in court, Thompson allegedly performed oral sex on the boy and later fondled him in a separate incident. Both incidents allegedly occurred in 2009, court documents say.
Thompson has not been arrested and remains free, according to Lexington police.
Thompson worked for Fayette County Public Schools from 2006 until resigning at the end of the 2010-11 school year. He had been a special education instructional assistant and dance team coach at Leestown Middle School.
Thompson also has been an internationally known Zumba fitness instructor. But the organization he worked with, Miami-based Zumba Fitness LLC, canceled Jackson's affiliation after he was charged.
