A good Samaritan who stopped to aid a motorist Sunday night was repaid by being attacked and robbed, according to the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
Sean Helton, 19, of London was driving on Hammock Road when he saw a car with a hood up blocking the road, the sheriff's office said in a news release. A woman was near the car.
Helton stopped to assist, but soon another car pulled in from behind and two men got out. They attacked Helton with a baseball bat and a knife, the news release said.
Only Helton's coat was cut, but the men rummaged through his car. They stole his sunglasses and other small items, then fled, as did the woman, who started her car and drove off.
Helton suffered injuries to his back but declined medical attention.
The only description Helton could give of the assailants was that the woman was in her mid-20s and had an acne problem, and her car was a white Chevrolet Cavalier with no plates. The investigation is continuing.
Anyone with any information about the robbery is asked to contact the Laurel County Sheriff's Office at (606) 864-6600. Callers may remain anonymous.
