A 64-year-old Rockcastle County man died Thursday at a Lexington hospital after he was burned over 95 percent of his body, according to the Fayette County coroner's office.
Robert Childress was found Wednesday outside his home on Chestnut Ridge Road in Mount Vernon after a Kentucky Division of Forestry fire crew was dispatched to the property to contain a brush fire spotted from the air by a reconnaissance flight, according to the coroner's office.
Childress apparently was trying to contain the fire, which was classified as a debris burn by the forest service, officials said.
He was flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital where he died of burns and smoke inhalation about 1 a.m. Thursday, the coroner's office said.
No foul play is suspected.
