An off-duty Lexington police officer was hurt early Thursday at a Lexington Wal-Mart while trying to arrest a suspected shoplifter.
Officer Chris Carrington was working off duty at Wal-Mart at 500 New Circle Road when he was told about a shoplifter at 5:39 a.m., Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.
The suspect ran from the store and tried to get into the driver's side of a van in the parking lot.
Carrington struggled with the driver at the door. The driver got into the van and it pulled away, running over the officer's foot. At that point, the passenger shut the van off, removed the keys and jumped out.
Never miss a local story.
The officer then went to the passenger side and used his Taser on the driver.
The driver, Robert Franklin, 46, of Lexington, is charged with robbery, third-degree assault and resisting arrest, Roberts said.
He was being held at the Fayette County jail.
Roberts said Carrington was scheduled to see a doctor Thursday.
