A North Carolina man remained in critical condition Monday morning at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after a wreck Saturday on Versailles Road near Bluegrass Airport.
Randy Eugene Bates of Concord, N.C., was driving out Versailles near Wellesley Heights in his 2010 Toyota Camry with his right turn signal on when his car suddenly swerved to the left and into oncoming traffic, police said, quoting a witness.
Bates' Camry collided with an oncoming 1996 Chevrolet Silverado pulling an empty box trailer in the middle inbound lane. According to the Lexington police Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Camry spun into outbound lanes and stopped. The Silverado, driven by Samuel T. Raley of Guston, also spun and came to rest facing outbound.
Bates, a passenger in Bates' car and Raley were taken to UK Hospital. Raley was treated and released, police said. There was no information about Bates' passenger.
All were wearing seat belts.
