Lexington road crews are gearing up for the possibility of slippery driving conditions Thursday evening and Friday morning, city officials said.
Weather forecasts call for freezing rain and sleet to move into the area by about 6 p.m. Thursday, when many residents will be driving home. It is expected to continue until about 4 a.m. Friday.
Crews from the city's Division of Streets and Roads will work 12-hour shifts while the advisory is in effect, officials said.
"We are expecting freezing rain by about dark," Streets and Roads director Sam Williams said Thursday. "But the good thing is that the temperature Friday morning expected to be above freezing by daylight, so this won't last long."
Motorists can check the city's traffic hotline for the latest traffic updates and road-condition reports by dialing 258-3611. Information on blocked roads, accidents or trouble spots will be available on Twitter, @lexwrecks, or by listening to the Crosstown Traffic Show, broadcast weeekday mornings from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. on cable GTV3.
