Three people from Jackson County will be sentenced May 7 after pleading guilty to charges that stem from a 5-year-old being starved in 2011, a prosecutor said Tuesday.
Hazel Jackson, 49, and Dennis Rumberger, 51, pleaded guilty Monday in Jackson Circuit Court to first-degree criminal abuse, said Harold Rader, assistant Jackson Commonwealth's attorney.
Jackson is the child's grandmother, and Rumberger is Jackson's boyfriend. Cassondra Jackson, 29, the child's mother, pleaded guilty to complicity to commit criminal abuse, according to a Jackson Circuit Court clerk.
Hazel Jackson also pleaded guilty to first-degree unlawful imprisonment, Rader said.
Never miss a local story.
Police previously said the couple, arrested in July 2011, had locked the child in a room and purposely starved him.
The boy was hospitalized at University of Kentucky Hospital from June 27 to July 20, 2011, police told the Herald-Leader at the time.
Rader said the boy is doing well and living with other relatives.
