Lexington police were using footprints in the snow to track a man who robbed a Subway on Wednesday night.
However, the tracks ended nearby and, despite help from police dogs, officers had not found the perpetrator about an hour and a half after the crime.
The man, wearing a ski mask and carrying a black handgun, walked into the Subway at 2358 Nicholasville Road near Malabu Drive just before 9 p.m.
After he demanded money, the clerk gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, police Lt. Dean Marcum said. The man then left through the back of the restaurant.
Never miss a local story.
The footprints gave police a few clues, namely that the robber ran toward Malabu Drive and that he was wearing sneakers, Marcum said.
The robber was heavyset and appeared to be in his mid-30s, Marcum said. He was wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt.
