A Perry County woman was killed Tuesday when the driver of a car in which she was riding crashed while fleeing police, Kentucky State Police said.
Troopers were patrolling Ky. 80 about 11:30 Tuesday when they saw a 1997 Plymouth Breeze traveling east at high speed, the release said.
When the troopers turned to try to stop the car, it crossed the westbound lanes of the road, hit a rock wall and turned over.
Emergency workers took both occupants to the Hazard ARH Medical Center, where Deborah Ann Cress, 31, was pronounced dead.
Her husband, Ryan Cress, 29, who was driving, was transferred to Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tenn., where he is in stable condition, according to state police.
The two were not wearing seat belts. The results of toxicology tests to determine whether the driver was impaired are pending, according to the release.
