A Lexington man was arrested in Michigan on Thursday afternoon on charges stemming from a rape and kidnapping case in December.
U.S. Marshals arrested Parico D. Coffey, 22, in Inkster, Mich. He had been on the lam since December, when Lexington police released surveillance footage of Coffey inside a Speedway gas station at Versailles Road and Alexandria Drive.
Coffey is accused of abducting a woman from the Speedway in the pre-dawn hours on Dec. 17.
Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts has said the woman was getting into the driver's side of her car to leave the Speedway when an armed man shoved her to the passenger's side of the car, got behind the wheel and drove her to another location, where he assaulted her.
Never miss a local story.
About 5:45 a.m., police received reports of a woman in distress knocking on doors on the 1200 block of Bordeaux Drive and trying to report a car theft and kidnapping. Officers found the woman there.
In addition to rape, Coffey is charged with kidnapping, sodomy and robbery. The Office of Fayette County Sheriff will arrange for his extradition.
