A full psychiatric examination has been ordered for the man accused of slashing a Lexington woman at a supermarket.
Corey Lane Cummins, 44, is charged with first-degree assault in the attack on Sara Gretz, which occurred Feb. 12 in the Kroger store on West Lowry Lane.
Fayette District Judge Megan Lake Thornton ordered the mental health evaluation during a hearing Thursday. It is to be conducted at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center.
Cummins already has received a preliminary mental assessment under an earlier district court order.
Cummins has pleaded not guilty in the case and is due back in court April 3.
According to a statement that the Gretz family released, her trachea was almost severed in the attack, and she suffered other internal injuries resulting in life-threatening blood loss.
