A Pike County man is recovering from gunshot wounds after a standoff Wednesday with police.
James D. Sallette, 53, was shot multiple times after he pointed his gun at Kentucky State Police troopers and made threats, according to a KSP Pikeville Post 9 news release.
Police were initially called to a residence on Island Creek in Pike County for a man who had been stabbed. Afterward, police were notified about shots fired near the right Fork of Island Creek. Sallette came out and started threatening police, pointing his gun and disobeying police commands to drop the gun. Police determined Sallette had stabbed the man moments before he started shooting.
Sallette was transported to Pikeville Medical Center for gunshot wounds. No other information regarding his condition was available.
Sallette was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, third-degree terroristic threatening and possession of handgun by a convicted felon.
